Supporting National Capacity Building to Develop Sustainable Infrastructure as a means of implementing the SDGs in Rwanda (SI)

The development of resilient infrastructure is a priority for the Rwandan government, fostering innovation and promoting sustainable industrialization. The Ministry of Environment and UNEP collaborated on a small-scale fund agreement for the project or program titled "supporting national capacity building to develop sustainable infrastructure as a means of implementing the SDGs in Rwanda."

The project contributed 130,000 USD to support the provision of capacity building through various training, peer learning, workshops, and study tours to help Rwanda achieve its sustainable development goals. Infrastructure investment and innovation are critical drivers of economic growth and development. With cities housing more than half of the world's population, mass transportation and renewable energy are becoming increasingly important, as are the development of new industries and information and communication technologies.

Through this project Ministry of Environment developed:

•         Concept and roadmap of the Center of Excellence for Green Urbanization and Sustainable Infrastructure

•         Rwanda’s sustainable infrastructure assessment report

•         Cases studies showcasing Rwanda’s sustainable infrastructure:

o        Sustainable And Inclusive Housing in Rwanda: Kinigi IDP Model Village

o        Strategic Planning for Rwanda’s Urban Infrastructure: Nyandugu Eco- Tourism Park

•         Capacity Building: Study Tour in Germany and Kenya.
